The Middletown Community Foundation provides financial assistance to adult learners in our service area who are pursuing higher education, workforce training, or professional certification for the first time — or returning after a gap.
Supporting Adult Learners in Middletown
Life doesn't always follow a straight path. Many area adults find themselves ready to pursue education later in life — whether they're re-entering the workforce, changing careers, seeking a promotion, or simply fulfilling a long-held dream. MCF's Adult Learner Financial Assistance program exists to remove the financial barriers that stand in the way.
This program supports adults who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a degree program, vocational training, apprenticeship, or professional certification at an accredited institution. Awards are based on financial need, personal circumstances, and the applicant's commitment to completing their education.

Returning After a Gap
Adults who started college but had to stop due to financial hardship, family responsibilities, health challenges, or other life circumstances — and are now ready to finish what they started.
First-Generation College Students
Adults who never had the opportunity to pursue higher education and are taking that step for the first time, often while balancing work and family.
Career Changers
Working adults who need new credentials, certifications, or a degree to transition into a new field or advance in their current career.
Workforce Re-entry
Adults re-entering the workforce after time away — including caregivers, veterans, and those who have overcome personal hardship — who need updated skills and credentials.
Eligibility & Selection
Adult learner applications are open year round. To be considered for Adult Learner Financial Assistance, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Resident of the Franklin, Madison, Middletown, Monroe, or Trenton
- Age 25 or older at the time of application
- Enrolled or accepted at an accredited college, university, vocational school, or certification program
How to Apply
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, subject to available funding. Follow these steps to get started.
Review Eligibility
Confirm that you meet the residency, age, and enrollment requirements before beginning your application.
Gather Your Materials
Prepare your personal statement, proof of enrollment or acceptance, financial documentation, and your letter of recommendation.
Submit via the Scholarship Portal
Complete and submit your application through the SLM Scholarship Portal. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis as funding allows.
Await a Decision
MCF staff will review your application and contact you with a decision. Awards are disbursed directly to your institution.
