NORMAN and PAT HAYES SCHOLARSHIP

Available to graduating seniors of Middletown or Monroe High Schools. The student must be the first in his/her immediate family to attend college. The definition of family would include parents, step-parents, brothers, sisters, step brothers, and step sisters. Must have a 2.5 GPA from grades 9-12 and attend a four year accredited college or university.

Background: The Board of Trustees of the Middletown Community Foundation established this scholarship fund in honor of Norman Hayes upon his retirement in 2000. Hayes was the executive director of the Foundation from 1989-2000.

Norman and Pat Hayes came to Middletown in the fall of 1957. Pat came from Ironton, Ohio and was a graduate of Colgate Rochester Divinity School. She was employed by the First Baptist Church of Middletown as Director of Christian Education. Norm was from Frankfort, Indiana and a graduate of Indiana University. Norm was employed by the Middletown City Schools as a teacher at Lemon-Monroe High School. They married in 1965. Pat began working at Armco and retired as Meeting Management Manager. Norm continued with the Middletown City Schools and retired as superintendent of schools in 1987.

Use: The amount of the scholarship will be renewed annually for four years. The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA for renewal. After a student has completed four years, the funding will cease and a new high school senior will be selected to start the four year cycle over again.
