Administration of the program 
is provided free of charge to the more than 1,100 affiliates in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. by Dolly Parton's Dollywood Foundation. This includes convening the annual panel that selects which books to include in the program, negotiating the discounted purchasing price with the publisher, coordinating book orders, and coordinating the mailing of each monthly book to more than 500,000 children. 

However, her Foundation does not pay for the actual book purchase or postage for your child's book each month. That cost is paid each month by several generous local sponsors. For our Middletown children, the lead sponsor is the Middletown Community Foundation, which is providing $150,000 in funding over a five-year period. For our Edgewood, Madison, and Monroe children, the lead sponsor is the United Way's Women Living United group, which is raising the funds for that expansion.
